I really liked the first book in this series. Books 2 and 3 were more like "meh" and this book has convinced me I'm done with the Evil Dead MC. I couldn't stand Wolf or Crystal. He was constantly playing her, sleeping with her then moving on to another woman and not hiding it from her. She was one of those characters who want to have a backbone but can't seem to muster one up because they're helpless with lust for the one who does them wrong. I got tired of her deciding she was done with Wolf until he kissed her and then she would give in. Wolf was one of those dummies who tries to convey his thoughts through esp or something. He would never just tell Crystal how he felt, he tried to say it in really roundabout unclear ways or just convey his feelings with his eyes. Just...no.Tags : WOLF: An Evil Dead MC Story (The Evil Dead MC Series Book 4) - Kindle edition by Nicole James. WOLF An Evil Dead MC Story The Evil Dead MC Series Book 4 edition by Nicole James Romance eBooks Reviews
I need to talk about what I loved about this book before I get into the nitty gritty of what I didn't. There was a lot there to love. Catching up with the brothers and the women of the California branch of the MC was a definite highlight. I truly adored all the babies. The ticked off Evil Dead does Vegas was a freaking hoot and makes me want a girls weekend in Vegas. There was lots of MC action going on throughout the book that provided the grit I love in a good MC series.
Truly it started out as a great book. What drove me crazy was the main characters, Wolf and Crystal. There was some scattered flashback craziness which was confusing, but we did get their story from the beginning. This solidified the impression of Wolf I got from the previous books in the series - he was a commitmentphobe womanizer who had no issue trampling on the feelings of the woman he cared about most. He wanted her, but didn't want just her, so while she was off limits to others, he could have whoever he wanted and rub her face in it. In other words, I thought he was a jerk of the first degree.
As for Crystal, in order to be a doormat, one must lie down and Crystal was the epitome of a doormat. She let Wolf get away with his antics for years. YEARS!!!! Other than her doormat tendencies I did at least like Crystal, when she wasn't messing around with Wolf. The good news is by the time Mack (the MC Prez) was done so was I, and so was Crystal. So she left. I was all like "Whoohoo!! You go girl!"
BTW - we meet some great guys in the boys of Brothers Ink, which is where Crystal ends up working. I want those brothers to get their own series, especially Jameson. Please! Pretty please with sugar on top!!
Anyways, Crystal finding her backbone didn't last long. Her leaving did not put a stop to the on again, off again thing they had going on. In fact, a good part of this book consisted of Wolf and Crystal getting together then leaving each other what felt like 10,951 times. All the back and forth got me to the "OMG, just be done with him and get on with your life and maybe get with Jameson!"
Unfortunately, Crystal never took my advice and got with Jameson. So sad.
My final verdict is that I love the Evil Dead MC, just not some of the main characters and their TSTL actions. The past couple of books in the series have been slightly disappointing, but I just can't give up on the series. I like the MC itself too much.
Spice's Rating 3 Stars
What a powerful story! This is the 4th story in the series, focusing on Crystal, the bartender of the Evil Dead MC and Wolf, the sexy predatory alpha man. Crystal and Wolf have been dancing around each other forever, with both of them in love with each other but Wolf is afraid to make a commitment to Crystal.
What I like about the series in general is that each book is really different, the hero and heroines in each book are different. Crystal in many ways is a strong, independent woman but for some reason is weak when it comes to Wolf. I know some reviewers see this as a contradiction but I don't I know LOTS of women who are professionally very successful but don't apply those same skills and talents and common sense to their romantic relationships. No matter how hard she tries, Crystal can't stay away from Wolf and he can't stay away from her.
We all know men like Wolf too they love you but are afraid of making a commitment. The irony is, Wolf has a reputation for understanding women, which is part of his charm, but he doesn't really get what would make Crystal happy, so he hurts her over and over again. Just when they would seem to be on the verge of getting back together, Wolf would mess up. I felt like screaming at him Can't you put her first, just once!!!
Crystal ends up moving away and the couple struggles with trying to live without each other. Crystal ends up working with a famous tattoo artist, Jameson, who may a character from another book (not sure but if he is, I'd like to read that series as well). He is very supportive of Crystal and in love with her too, but he loves her enough to give her the space she needs to heal from Wolf. But no matter how hard they try, Wolf and Crystal, always end up running into each and venturing back to that same unhealthy space in their relationship.
As a subplot, there is a sadistic, crazy member of another MC who is wreaking havoc on the lives of the EDMC because he has a personal vendetta against one of its members. Crystal, and Wolf get caught up in the vendetta and things look hairy for awhile, burst Crystal and Wolf eventually get to their HEA.
I really enjoyed this book, the only reason I'm giving it 4 rather than 5 stars is that I wish the author had given us a little more info on Crystal's and Wolf's background. It would have helped to understand what made them tick, especially Crystal. I also really HATE it when men 'spank' women, if it's not part of sexual play, I feel it's demeaning, archaic, and infantilizing. It must occur more often then I think since this idea of a man needing to discipline' a woman is featured in a lot of romance novels, but it's hard for me to imagine myself or any of my close male and female friends EVER thinking this is acceptable behavior.
Will be excited to read the next book, which features Ghost, but i REALLY want to read about Red Dog and Mack from the San Jose chapter and Blood from the New Orleans chapter.
